Flying Shuttles Art & Weaving Studio
Flying Shuttles Art and Weaving Studio is a long-established non-profit art studio, gallery, and retail space that celebrates and supports the creative talents of artists and weavers with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Mission & Purpose: Founded in 1984, the studio provides artistic opportunities, skill development, and community engagement for individuals with disabilities.
- Art & Craft Offerings: Artists create a wide variety of handcrafted work, including hand-woven rugs, placemats, scarves, jewelry, paintings, drawings, note cards, tumblers, hand crafted coloring books, and tote bags.
- Gallery & Retail Shop: The space functions as a gallery and shop where visitors can view and purchase original artwork and handcrafted woven goods, with some items available by custom order.
- Community Reach: Our studio also offers an online marketplace to extend exposure for the artists and their creations beyond the local area.
Overall, Flying Shuttles is more than a studio — it’s a creative, inclusive space that fosters artistic expression, community connection, and economic opportunities for its artists.
Thank you to Community Provider Network Rhode Island for producing the YouTube video "Art by People with Disabilities" showcasing our artists at Flying Shuttles Art & Weaving Studio!
Our artwork is as diverse as the artists who create them. We have a large selection of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art, including hand-woven rugs, placemats, table runners, scarves, jewelry, original paintings and drawings, note cards, and dolls. In addition to our current inventory, hand-woven items can be customized to accommodate your size and color requirements. See some of our works and artists below!
